Marcus Willis, Wimbledon's Everyman of yesteryear who played Roger Federer, returns in doubles

Marcus Willis, the Everyman's everyman who faced Roger Federer at Centre Court while ranked 772nd in 2016, was back at Wimbledon on Thursday, competing in men's doubles and hoping he might get to have a bit of a reunion with the now-retired eight-time champion at the All England Club. Willis had not competed at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament since a run to the third round of doubles in 2017 alongside Jay Clarke. “I’ve got fond memories here, and when I got the wild card, I was pretty emotional about that,” said Willis, a 33-year-old from Britain.

Rheinmetall, Leonardo say deal paves way for EU defence consolidation

The newly-formed joint venture between Germany's Rheinmetall and Italy's Leonardo is a first step in the consolidation of the European defence vehicle sector, the chief executives of the two groups said on Thursday. Rheinmetall's Armin Papperger said the agreement could capitalise on a European market worth more than 50 billion euros ($53.99 billion). "My expectation is that, with (this) cooperation only on the vehicle side, there is a market of more than 50 bln euros, a huge market that we can conquer," Papperger said in a recorded message posted on Leonardo's website.
