    WRAPUP 1-US optimistic revised Hamas proposal may break Gaza ceasefire impasse

    T he United States believes the remaining differences between Israel and Hamas can be bridged in negotiations over the Palestinian militant group's latest ceasefire proposal, as talks resume in Cairo on Wednesday. Israeli forces on Tuesday seized the main border crossing between Gaza and Egypt in Rafah, the southern Gaza city where more than one million displaced Palestinians have sought shelter during Israel's seven-month-old offensive.

    FOREX-Dollar regains momentum as yen struggles

    The dollar was back on the front foot on Wednesday, making modest gains after earlier losses from renewed bets on Federal Reserve rate cuts this year, while the yen eased towards the 155 per dollar level and kept intervention risks from Tokyo high. The yen was last little changed at 154.75 per dollar, edging away from its peak of 151.86 hit last week on the back of suspected intervention from Japanese authorities to prop up the sliding currency. Analysts have said that any intervention from Tokyo would only serve as a temporary respite for the yen, given stark interest rate differentials between the U.S. and Japan remain.

    Niagara Energy purchases 92.35% stake in Enel Peru unit

    Niagara Energy has purchased a 92.35% stake in Enel Generacion Peru, the local subsidiary of Italian utility Enel said in a statement on Tuesday. The energy producer has bought some 2.9 billion shares, Enel's local unit said in a letter to Peru's market regulator.
