Soriano homers twice to lead Cubs over Pirates

Alfonso Soriano got booed and jeered during a slow start. Now he's showing again that he can carry a team. Soriano homered in his first two at-bats, Geovany Soto and Mark DeRosa went deep and the surging Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4 Friday for their seventh win in eight games. Pirates Team Report May 16, 2008

Ronny Paulino admits he was angry that he lost his starting catching job to Ryan Doumit at the beginning of the season. However, Paulino is over that anger now and ready to step in as the Pirates' primary man behind the plate with Doumit on the disabled list.

Doumit will miss at least a month and most likely six weeks after breaking his left thumb Tuesday. That means Paulino will do the bulk of the catching until Doumit gets healthy.

Doumit is hitting .350 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in 29 games.

"I feel bad for Ryan because he deserved to be playing; he was doing a great job," Paulino said. "If anything, he was pushing me to play better, and now I need to step into the lineup and do a good job, pick up where he left off."
