Why a late-round WR should excite fantasy managers?

Yahoo Fantasy's Liz Loza chats with Co-host of Open Bar and Dynasty Dummies podcast JMic about some booms and busts ahead of Week 2.

Video Transcript

LIZ LOZA: Welcome to this week's fantasy community corner. I am very excited to be joined by one of my favorite people in the space. It is JMic, but you can call him John Michael McCann. I get to call him JMic. He is the co-host of the "Open Bar" podcast, which I was lucky enough to go on, and that's how I met JMic. He also co-hosts the "Dynasty Dummies" podcast, and he is a contributor for the Dummies Funhouse Podcast Network. Welcome to FFL!

JMIC: Thank you so much for having me, Liz. Good to be here with you. The season has started. My goodness. Already, craziness ensues.

LIZ LOZA: So, after all of this craziness of Week 1, who is your biggest climber?

JMIC: I'm gonna go off the beaten path here for a moment, Liz. I know people are gonna be excited about Elijah Mitchell. They're gonna be excited about DeVonta Smith, which I am too. These are wonderful things. But out in New England, don't look now, but we just saw Jakobi Meyers, who many people were taking in the double-digit rounds, get nine targets in a game that was closely contested, the nine targets leading the team out of the gate. Huge win for him, and you're looking to start him week in and week out at this point.

LIZ LOZA: I love that take. By the way, I will also remember a time where people were like, you need to check out Kelvin Harmon's tape out of NC State, and I remember watching it, because everybody told me I had to, and being so bored, but then looking on the other side of the field, and being like, who's this Jakobi Meyers? Who's this Jakobi Meyers guy? Well, it looks like Bill Belichick thought the same thing. Love that. Now, you know, with good comes, sometimes, a little bit of bad, so who was your biggest faller coming out of Week 1?

JMIC: The ultimate sadness for me comes out of Tennessee. Unfortunately, everyone was super excited to see Julio Jones and AJ Brown take the field, and we were excited to see Derrick Henry hopefully take another step in being the monster that he's been. King Henry has let us down in a major way, and if you've taken him in the first half of the first round of many of your drafts, you're super disappointed with what you saw, Derrick Henry only getting 58 yards on the ground on 17 attempts. Derrick Henry's gotta give you more than that. He's gotta get back to King Henry, and that offensive line has to go back to being bullies. And right now, you're nervous, if you've got Derrick Henry on your team.

LIZ LOZA: That is definitely a player to keep an eye on, and they will draw the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. Let's make this last question a rookie-focused question. Give me your boldest rookie prediction.

JMIC: Liz, don't look now, but in Miami, there is a rookie by the name of Jaylen Waddle who just went four catches, 61 yards, and a touchdown. All of a sudden, he's a top-26 receiver on the week from last week. Now, in Week 2, he's going up against a Buffalo team where they've got Tre'Davious White, they've got a lot of players in that secondary, but I'm confident that Jaylen Waddle continues to be a top-24 option at wide receiver, because he's going to be the straw that stirs the drink for that Miami Dolphins passing game. Jaylen Waddle is the only one in that offense who does what he can do, which is get open in all areas of the field, and gives Tua a reliable option to be able to get the ball to at any point, at any time, and I love Jaylen Waddle this season, and definitely for Week 2 against Buffalo.

LIZ LOZA: Oh, I love the upside of the unknown in rookies, but Jaylen Waddle is not unknown to his quarterback, and a very encouraging volume in Week 1. He was second in team targets, tied with Myles Gaskin, in the opener, so, yes, I absolutely love that take. JMic, I really love, frankly, all of your analysis, and I love the fact that you were able to join us for the Fantasy Football Live community corner segment this week. Y'all need to follow John Michael on social media. You can find him at @JMicCheck. Thank you so much for being with us.

JMIC: Always a pleasure. Appreciate you.
