Typhoon Mawar Knocks Out Power for Most of Guam

Guam’s power authority said Typhoon Mawar knocked out electricity for most of the island on Wednesday, May 24.

The eye of the storm passed just north of the island, packing wind speeds of up to 140 mph, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

“This is going to be kind of a long night,” a NWS meteorologist in the Guam field office said. “It is going to be scary. There’s no electricity unless you have a generator,” he said. “Reassure your children, it’s going to be a little bit scary as we go later into the night. You can hear the sounds. The winds are howling, things are breaking.”
