Trillion-dollar companies: How wealthy are their CEOs?

Alphabet, Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon are just part of the elite group of companies that have market caps of $1 trillion or more. Their CEOs are paid handsomely, though some are getting pay cuts. Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, saw a huge dip in compensation, going from $212 million in 2021 to $1.3 million in 2022. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, brought in $84 million in 2022, however, he is expected to see a 40 percent drop in 2023. The Yahoo Finance Live team breaks down the numbers.

- Tech stocks leading the way on Wall Street. And with the strength in the sector, we're taking a close look at the leaders of the trillion dollar names and their wealth. Yahoo Finance Tech Editor Dan Howley is here. Dan, what do you got?

DAN HOWLEY: Yeah. So we have a big discussion going on, obviously, about trillion dollar companies because of NVIDIA crossing that line this week and falling back under it. But we want to kind of go over what the leaders of these companies bring home themselves as far as their compensation packages.

So we'll just start it off with Alphabet's Sundar Pichai. In 2022, he made $225 million. There was a big uproar because they, obviously, were doing layoffs at that company. That included a salary of $2 million-- I'm going to have to renegotiate my salary here-- as well as stock awards of $218 million and then $6 million for security. If you've ever seen "The Simpsons," I assume it's because he has dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark, they shoot bees at you.

Andy Jassy, meanwhile, he brought home $1.3 million. The founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos scoffing at that. That was made up of $317,000 in salary, $981,000 towards his 401(k) in security. The year before that, though, he made $212 million because $211 million came in stock awards. So a huge dip.

Microsoft's Satya Nadella, meanwhile, he brought home $54.9 million, $2.5 million in salary, $42 million in stock awards, $10 million in cash incentives, and then $110,000 in charities in 401(k).

And Tim Cook. This was a big one. He brought home $84 million in 2022. He's expecting a 40% drop, though, next year to get a $3 million salary, $6 million in cash, and $40 million equity award. And we can't leave out Jensen Huang. He is the CEO of NVIDIA, despite the fact that they fell down below the mark. He last year made a salary of $996,000, $19.6 million stock award, and $693,000 towards his 401(k) and security. Save it for the future, Jensen. Save it for the future. That's what you got to do.

- They're all sitting pretty comfy. My huge takeaway. Lots of money. All right. Howley, great stuff.
