JARED QUAY: Happy Friday, everybody. Let the Games begin. This morning's opening ceremony, held at an empty national stadium in Tokyo, marked the official start of the 2020 Summer Olympics. And although the inaugural event was a bit scaled back while paying tribute to the gravity of the COVID-19 pandemic, it's still providing some amazing entertainment. Here are my top five moments from the opening ceremony.

Number five, Team USA'S entrance. While Team USA's outfits were predictably basic, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and I certainly enjoyed their amped-up entrance led by flag bearers Sue Bird and Eddie Alvarez. You might have also noticed that the US women's national soccer team wasn't able to attend. But don't worry. Like the rest of the world, they were still with us remotely.

Oh, that's a nice job, Abby and Megan. I think it's light.

Number four, homage to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. This unique nod to the 1964 Summer Games that were held in Tokyo over 50 years ago featured a multifaceted performance that honored Japan's rich carpentry tradition, complete with a live construction of wooden Olympic rings.

And now on to the podium-- the bronze goes to the parade of nations. This colorful barrage of fabric showed us some of the best, like Sierra Leone's dope throwback jackets, and the worst, like Italy's Armani design disaster, outfits the fashion industry could muster. The parade also featured some milestones like Rower Mohamed Sbihi, Team Great Britain's first Muslim flag bearer, Hend Zaza, Syria's 12-year-old table tennis player, who was the youngest competitor at this year's Games, as well as Nino Salukvadze, Georgia's 52-year-old [? sport ?] shooter, who is competing in her ninth Olympic games. She's the first female to accomplish such a feat. Let's go, Nino.

Coming in with the silver is a double down on baby oil. First, we saw the return of Tonga's bare-chested flag bearer and tae kwon do athlete Pita Taufatofua, only to be followed up by Vanuatu's shirtless rower Rillo Rii. I don't know about you, but I think we should have an [INAUDIBLE] flag bearer duel to decide who's the ultimate shiny [? jack ?] champion. They'd both look really good.

And without further ado, the gold goes to 1,800 drones flying together to form a beautiful globe over the Olympic stadium. The unforgettable display was accompanied by a fitting performance of the song "Imagine." Going from John Lennon to John Legend, the rendition feature musical stars and worldwide singers alike and provided a much-needed reminder that we're all in this together.

Well, everyone, the torch has been lit. And if the opening ceremony was any indication, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be, too. With some incredible competitions about to coming your way, like the US women's national soccer team looking to rebound against New Zealand and Team USA softball taking on Mexico, we'll be right there with you to recap all the action you might have missed. See you tomorrow.
