Several Jordan Neely Protesters Arrested Following Subway Vigil

Several people were arrested by the New York City Police Department on Monday, May 8, as demonstrators protested the death of Jordan Neely.

Footage by Jarrett Robertson shows a group of people protesting down the street from the Broadway-Lafayette subway station, where a vigil was held on Monday in memory of Neely.

In the footage, a woman who identifies herself as photographer Stephanie Keith can be seen being placed in handcuffs.

In a press conference on Monday night, the NYPD said a Molotov cocktail was found on the ground at the protest, and that 11 arrests were made. Two other people were arrested on Sunday for being on subway tracks, police said.

Neely was placed in a chokehold for several minutes by another passenger on the train on May 1. The other passenger was identified on Friday as former US Marine Daniel Penny.

Neely’s death was ruled a homicide by a New York medical examiner. Penny was released without charge, pending further investigation. A statement from Penny’s lawyers said he “never intended to harm Mr Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death.” Credit: Jarrett Robertson via Storyful
