Roads Closed in Texas Panhandle After Heavy Rains Bring Flash Flooding

Heavy overnight rainfall in the Texas Panhandle led to flash flooding and road closures on Thursday, June 1, the Texas Department of Transportation said.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning on Wednesday night, urging residents in Amarillo and surrounding communities to seek higher ground. Earlier in the day the weather service had alerted residents of severe thunderstorms that could cause large hail, strong winds, and tornadoes. By Wednesday night the severe weather risk had subsided but flooding concerns remained, they said.
