On Sunday, Regina King took home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, for her performance in HBO’s “Watchmen.”
She also wore a t-shirt bearing an image of Breonna Taylor - who was killed by police in March - and the words “Say Her Name” under a bright pink blazer.
When asked why she thought it was important to wear the shirt, she told reporters in the virtual press room following her acceptance speech, “the stories that we were exploring, that we were presenting, that we were holding a mirror up to in 'Watchmen,' it felt appropriate to represent with Breonna Taylor.”
Another Emmy winner that night, Uzo Aduba, also wore a Breonna Taylor shirt, and King mentioned her.
“When I saw my sister Uzo had on the same shirt, it was a confirmation that this was right,” she said.
