Raptors trade ideas: O.G. Anunoby to the Pelicans

AMIT MANN: I guess to make this trade happen, it probably would have to be Herbert Jones would be involved. Because if Dyson Daniels is not, and Trey Murphy is not, then I would imagine that the Raptors are like, OK. Well Herbert Jones, he seems like a fit for us. Great defensively, great shot blocker, mobile. The 3-point shot, we'll try and fix it.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Yeah, I mean that would be a really interesting conversation.

AMIT MANN: Yeah.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: I have not heard anything from the Pelicans, as far as yes, if it really comes to it, we'll put him on the board. My sense is that they would be pretty hesitant to do that, even with Herb's struggles shooting the ball this year. They really value him. I think--

AMIT MANN: Yeah.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Sometimes, teams overrate the culture stuff, like this guy is such a hard worker. But Herb really is that guy. Herb is I think everything they want to be, in terms of--

AMIT MANN: Mhm.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: --work ethic, and being a great teammate, and also likes being in New Orleans, which is not always easy to find. He's from Alabama.

AMIT MANN: Sure.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: So I think they'd be-- I don't know. I think they'd be pretty hesitant to put Herbert a deal. But OG is a really good player. And it really fills a need. And he's just--

AMIT MANN: Mhm.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: --kind of like Herb, but a superior player in a couple of different ways. So--

AMIT MANN: Sure.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: That would be a really interesting one.

AMIT MANN: So of the three that I mentioned, Trey Murphy, Herbert Jones, and Dyson Daniels, you'd think Herb would be the most likely to be traded. But they're still reluctant to do so.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Yeah, I think that would be accurate to say.

AMIT MANN: Mhm.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: I think right now they're posturing, like we're not going to move any of those three guys.

AMIT MANN: Right.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: And I don't know if that changes in a week or not.

AMIT MANN: Sure. And then you mentioned Jose Alvarado. Just love his style. He fits, him and Fred VanVleet are pretty close, I believe. And he's just made himself a very serviceable backup point guard, which is good. So if he was to be involved in the trade, I guess Garrett Temple would be your backup point guard?

CHRISTIAN CLARK: I would be shocked if they traded Jose on such a good contract. And he's just--

AMIT MANN: Yeah.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: He's entrenched as this backup point guard. He's on such a good deal. They're going to be able to resign him to a good deal eventually, I think. I would be flabbergasted if Jose was in the deal.

AMIT MANN: Flabbergasted! Oh, flabbergasted!

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Incredible defensive player for a dude--

AMIT MANN: Yeah. Yeah.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: who's 5 foot 10.

AMIT MANN: Sure.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Leads the Pelicans in steals, is second in deflections, is the rare sub 6 foot defensive game changer.

AMIT MANN: Uh huh.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: It's crazy how much bigger he seems on the defensive end than he really is.

AMIT MANN: Sure. Sure. So damn, man. You're saying no Jose. No Herb. No Trey. No Dyson Daniels. Jaxson Hayes seems someone that the Raptors could get if they wanted him, right?

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Oh, yeah. They're definitely trying--

AMIT MANN: Oh, it's like that? It's like that?

CHRISTIAN CLARK: They're definitely trying to get off of--

AMIT MANN: Bye.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Devonte and Jaxson's contracts. I mean, yeah. I think--

AMIT MANN: Yeah.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Whether it's Toronto or somebody else, they're going to be really looking hard to get off of those deals, I think.

AMIT MANN: OK.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Yeah. I don't know. Yeah, they're just definitely acting like right now, oh, we don't want to part with any of our young guys, who are on these good deals.

AMIT MANN: Sure. Yeah.

CHRISTIAN CLARK: Then maybe that does change. Maybe it doesn't.

AMIT MANN: Right. Well, so I guess from what I'm gathering, if a deal was to be made with the Pelicans, it's going to involve Jonas Valanciunas, or Devonte Graham, or Jaxson Hayes. One of those three, or whatever two of them, depending on how we look at it. And probably the three picks that the Raptors are rumored to be looking for.
