Players you got wrong | FFSK

In the Week 5 edition of the Fantasy Football Survival Kit, Matt Harmon reflects on the mistakes you've already made and possibly gives you hope for the rest of the NFL season.

Video Transcript

MATT HARMON: You're wrong to even think that that was correct, OK. There was no situation where that was going to be the right moves.

It's week five of the NFL season, which is usually about the time when clarity starts to sink in. It's right about now that we begin to really understand who the good teams are, who the bad teams are, and what will be the defining themes of this season. Like it appears the defining theme of the 2020 season is who's just going to be the last one standing? I mean, teams are so unrecognizable based on these injuries. Entire units, entire teams, are completely different.

We also have to admit our mistakes. There's no need to be ashamed of getting a few things wrong. What was the thing, the player, that you got most wrong coming into 2020 so far? And maybe we'll talk about whether it's going to get better. The first one up comes from @_dynastymine and it's Ty Hilton. A box opens up and there's nothing in it. And that's pretty much been what Ty Hilton has been to your fantasy team so far. Nothing.

You've gotten nothing out of this Colts receiver that once was a great producer. And you know I don't know that he's done. I'm not saying that it's just over for Ty Hilton. But the problem is he's certainly left some yards on the field, OK. We can be honest and open about that. But also the Colts are running a pretty conservative offense right now that's mostly based on the run and because their defense is so good, which I don't think many people expected.

I mean, honestly there's like three or four good defenses in the league and the Colts might be the best of them. Because they're a defensive based team there's just not going to be a lot of opportunity for Hilton to put up big numbers. So yes. You're wrong about that. It is what it is. Next.

This next one comes in from @sigmondbloom, my mentor in the Fantasy Football industry. The guy I call my fantasy dad, essentially. He brought me into this business and he's also telling you, it's time that you brought AJ Green off your fantasy team as he's turning to dust here.

AJ Green three yards as Joe Burrow gets his first win. I mean, there has been a certain sea change in the Bengals passing offense right now Tee Higgins the last two weeks has run the most routes on the team. He's been getting deep looks at 17 air yards per target. This is the guy that we need to be excited about on the Bengals offense right now. Yes, so AJ Green, it was a borderline Hall of Fame run and I mean, hell, he might have been the best big receiver at getting separation in his prime. But unfortunately that time has come and gone. Next.

This next one is very cleverly put and it's from @asapmitt and it's Brandin Cooks. Zero is the theme of this message that they sent into us because Brandin Cooks was a straight zero last week for your fantasy game. I mean, literally. He didn't get a pass, he didn't record a yard, so obviously he did not record a fantasy point. Yeah, it's been a mess so far in Houston. Obviously, Bill O'Brien has been shown that door, he's thrown out of there. I'm not sure that everything's just going to get better in Houston because Billy O'Brien is gone.

But I'm not saying that Cooks is going to just start popping off in fantasy at this point. I think we're starting to see the second half of Brandon Cook's career, maybe even the third part of Brandin Cooks career and it's certainly not as good as that first act. And you know, this one I'm just saying I was out on Brandin Cooks this year so I was right. And you, ASAP Mitt, we're wrong. Next.

This next one comes in from @matthewclute and it's Daniel Jones. And I thought I was going to kill it. Why the [BLEEP] did you think that? Next.

This next one comes in from @dc_207 and it's La'Veon Bell. Why? Tell me why did I draft him? I listened and I was-- I was dead wrong. [LAUGHS] I don't know. I don't know why you drafted a running back who's past his prime and playing on a really, really, really bad team. Don't do that. You were wrong to even think that that was correct. OK. There was no situation where that was going to be the right move. So you've learned from it, I hope, and don't do this again next year. Hashtag never Jets. No Jets. No Jets this year in fantasy and until Gates is gone that remains our talking point.

This last one, and it might be my favorite GIF ever that we've gotten in the Fantasy Football survival kit, it comes in from coatse71. Adrian Peterson, he's made you completely wrong about D'Andre Swift. Look, let's just talk here for a second. Is it painfully-- is it like this the stupidest thing you could possibly do in the year 2020 to run your offense through an aging Adrian Peterson when you have exciting athletic pass catchers, a quarterback with the big arm, and intriguing talents like D'Andre Swift in your backfield? Yes. Yes, that is really stupid.

But we also know the laws of science here essentially, and look, in the survival kit we believe in science. The laws of science declare that every single year it is inevitable, Adrian Peterson is inevitable. He will ruin some young intriguing backfield player, some running back that you really like, he's going to ruin that player's fantasy worth every single season until potentially the end of days. Which with the way things are going, that might be any day now.

So that is going to do it for the week five edition of the Fantasy Football Survival Kit. Next week we get to talk about what I got wrong. This week, we talked about what you got wrong so fire up the take cannon, we're going to be talking about all of my mistakes, all of the players I got wrong coming into 2020. Which will probably be like two. This will be like the shortest video of all time. Don't worry about it. But anyways, in the meantime, keep crushing it out there. You're wrong for now but in the end you might be right. What a stupid ending.
