Oilers forwards vs. Leafs forwards an impossible debate

The Edmonton Oilers started a debate on Twitter by responding to a Tim and Friends tweet about the Leafs having the best group of four forwards in the NHL right now.

Video Transcript

OMAR: I hate when the NHL account--

JULIAN MCKENZIE: What's your frustration?

OMAR: I hate when Twitter accounts do stuff like that like. Like, anytime. Like, you know what you're doing. And it's like, Edmonton Oilers account, like, don't. Stop. Like, just like, like, come on.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Do you disagree with the notion that the Oilers forwards are better than the Leafs ones?

OMAR: I-- I-- no. 'Cause like, that's-- I, I-- it is very difficult, and again, I've spent my tenure on "Zone Time" ripping on Leon Draisaitl.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Leading Leon.

OMAR: I've been-- I have-- I've done it a lot. But it's just like--

AVRY LEWIS-MCDOUGALL: Where's my golf club at?

OMAR: It's a weird--

[SCOFFS]

It's just, it's a weird comparison to make. And I just, I don't-- I don't know, man. Like, you can't answer that without any bias.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Why is that a weird thing to ask? Like, they're talking about like, the Leafs, who have one of the best players in the world.

OMAR: Yeah.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: And it's a good supporting cast at forward. The Oilers are a bit of the same thing. We compare Matthews and McDavid all the time. Why is it so weird?

OMAR: Yeah, but like--

JULIAN MCKENZIE: I don't think it's that weird.

OMAR: But when it comes to the four pack, like, it's like, like, you can't ignore context. Right? Like, individual--

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Of course you can't.

OMAR: As individual players, like, OK yeah sure, you can make those comparisons. But like, like, is Zach Hyman as important as McDavid or Draisaitl? No. Is Nylander as important as like, Marner or Matthews?

Yeah, I can make that argument this year. And again, when you think of like, all the-- all the production that Edmonton's having this year, it's mainly McDavid and Draisaitl. So it's almost as if like, the Twitter account was like, OK, we're going to focus on McDavid and Draisaitl.

But it would look weird if we just said, well, your-- our two players are better than your four. So we're going to add in other two players who are also kind of having good production season. Just like, you know what I mean?

JULIAN MCKENZIE: OK, fine.

OMAR: Like, from--

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Fair.

OMAR: It was from that angle, where it's like-- and then again, there's also the point of why are you tweeting this from the-- of the account of the NHL team? Like, at first when I saw it, I thought it was just like, a random like, fan account. Then I'm like, yo, that's the actual like, Edmonton Oilers Twitter account.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Well, what do you want them to do? They're not going to-- you don't want them to not big up their guys?

AVRY LEWIS-MCDOUGALL: Right?

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Like, I don't get that right.

AVRY LEWIS-MCDOUGALL: Exactly.

OMAR: I-- man--

JULIAN MCKENZIE: That, that-- you make a good point on the first few parts.

OMAR: Yeah.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Fine. Like, maybe it's not the exact thing to do to have four-- the four pack versus this four pack, because of the importance of certain things.

OMAR: Mhm.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: But I have-- I have no problem with the Edmonton Oilers saying that their four guys are better. In fact, I would be surprised if they didn't.
