Nick Foligno is leaving his family back in Columbus to join Toronto and will have to isolate for seven days before getting on the ice for the Maple Leafs. He will miss at least five games. Taylor Hall hopped in his car to drive from Buffalo to Boston and expected to be in the Bruins lineup less than 48 hours after they acquired him. Quarantine requirements are making the trade deadline drastically different for teams around the NHL this year. Within the league's own protocols, U.S. teams — especially those getting players from nearby rivals — have a sizable advantage over their Canadian counterparts, and it could make a difference down the road in trying to develop chemistry for the playoffs. Defenceman Mike Reilly, who was traded from Ottawa to Boston late Sunday, it's like any other trade deadline where he can play immediately. “Try to get there as quick as possible here,” Reilly said. “Just pack everything up here, and I believe I get to avoid the quarantine, which is nice.” Foligno — and Eric Staal when he went from the Sabres to the Montreal Canadiens — weren't so fortunate. Staal was the first player to benefit from Canada reducing its quarantine time from two weeks to one, though he still missed three games. Toronto traded a first and two fourth-round picks to land Foligno but won't be able to insert him into the lineup until April 21 at Winnipeg, at the earliest. “There’s a little bit of a lull here with the seven days that’s coming," Foligno said. “But I’m really looking forward to just getting there and getting acquainted with everything and then hitting the ground running and helping any way I can." Don't feel too bad for the North Division-leading Maple Leafs: They'll gave goaltender David Rittich available Tuesday night after acquiring him from Calgary. The opponent? The Flames. HELLO AGAIN Rittich isn't the only player facing his former team sooner than later. Hall and Curtis Lazar will face the Sabres six times over the final month of the season, including a three-game stint in Buffalo next week. “That fits in just with how this season’s been going,” Lazar said. “It’s been strange in all aspects. But then again, you look at the big picture and put things in perspective that we should just appreciate the opportunity we’re still able to play.” Ex-Devils forwards Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac have some time before returning to New Jersey with the New York Islanders, with games May 6 and 8 and potentially first in the East Division in reach. FREE PLAYERS It cost the defending Western Conference-champion Dallas Stars nothing to add a veteran defenceman on trade deadline day. They claimed pending free agent Sami Vatanen off waivers from New Jersey, and Ottawa plucked defenceman Victor Mete off waivers from nearby Montreal. ___ AP Hockey Writer John Wawrow contributed. ___ Follow AP Hockey Writer Stephen Whyno on Twitter at https://twitter.com/SWhyno ___ More AP NHL: https://apnews.com/NHL and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Stephen Whyno, The Associated Press

Paris Saint-Germain struggled to defend against an onslaught by Bayern Munich last week, conceding 31 shots. PSG still won the game 3-2, but the absence of stalwart defender and captain Marquinhos for Tuesday's second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal is raising concerns at the French league champions. The Brazil player was ruled out of the match with an injury to his right adductor muscle and did not train with his teammates on Monday. Marquinhos scored PSG's second goal from Neymar's assist in Munich but had to be replaced at the half-hour mark and missed PSG’s latest French league game over the weekend because of the injury. PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino initially said a decision on whether Marquinhos would play would not be taken before Tuesday, but the club later announced he would not be included in the squad. Pochettino is now expected to start Presnel Kimpembe and Danilo Pereira in the heart of the defence. “We all know Marquinhos' qualities, he is our defence leader," Kimpembe told a press conference on Monday. “He is our captain. If he is not there, it will be a big hole, although there are many great players in this squad to cover for his absence." In a repeat of last year's final, PSG was outplayed for long stretches of the match but came out on top of the encounter thanks to the individual brilliance of players like Kylian Mbappe, who scored twice. Bayern was made to pay for its profligacy but showed it has the quality required to turn around the tie. Pochettino admitted his team suffered in the opening leg as Bayern managed to carve open PSG's flanks too easily. “It's certainly one of their skills and we need to do better in that sector," Pochettino said, adding that the contest remains very open despite PSG's win in the first leg. “Bayern is the best team in the world at the moment. We have enormous respect for them, but at the same time, we have confidence in our strengths, and we know that we have to think about winning this match.” The good news for PSG is that the defending champions will also be without important players including forward Robert Lewandowski, Corentin Tolisso and winger Serge Gnabry. Bayern was held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Union Berlin over the weekend but Hansi Flick’s side was so dominant in the first leg it remains confident a comeback is possible. “We want to cause a mini upset in Paris," Flick said. “Of course, we’ll be delighted if we manage that.” ___ More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports The Associated Press

OTTAWA — Victor Mete has a new home. The Ottawa Senators claimed the 22-year-old defenceman off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.A fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft, Mete played sparingly with Montreal this season, registering three assists in 14 games. In 185 NHL contests, the Woodbridge, Ont., native has four goals and 34 points to go along with two assists in 10 playoff appearances.Set to become a restricted free agent this summer, the five-foot-nine, 184-pound Mete joins an Ottawa blue line that got a lot younger ahead of Monday's NHL trade deadline. The club dealt Mike Reilly, 27, to the Boston Bruins for a third-round pick in 2022 on Sunday before shipping Braydon Coburn, 36, to the New York Islanders for a seventh rounder in the same draft.Jacob Bernard-Docker — the 26th pick in the 2018 draft — signed with Ottawa earlier this month after leaving the University of North Dakota.
