Mad Bets: Will the Bucs cover -3.5 vs. Bears?

Minty Bets, Jared Quay & Matt Gothard give their picks for the Buccaneers-Bears game on Thursday Night.

MINTY BETS: Week 5 of the NFL kicks off with an exciting and watchable football game, finally, as the Chicago Bears host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs are 5 and 1/2 point favorites, and the total is set at 44 and 1/2. I'm gonna go first with my pick. I actually really like the Bucs to cover here.

The line is a little short, so I'm a little cautious. And we have seen Nick Foles beat Tom Brady in the past. But Tom Brady has made amazing comebacks even with injuries surrounding this team and all the picks that he's thrown. His O-line is actually protecting him really well, allowing a QB sack percentage of only 3%. And he does a great job at spreading the ball around.

This Bucs team can stop the run and pressure Nick Foles. So I say the Bucs cover this line, but if it goes up to 6 and 1/2, I might lay off it. Jared, what is your pick?

JARED QUAY: I'm going with the under 44 and 1/2 here. I-- see, I'm not gonna disrespect the Bears defense. Their defense is good. Their defense is why they're in games. Their offensive identity comes from the run first, and then it goes to the pass.

Problem is, the Bucs do not allow teams to run. Nobody's got 100 yards rushing on them yet. And so I think that when both of these teams just waste time trying to go at each other's mega defenses, we're just gonna see a low-scoring game here. I think the Bucs could cover, but in the case it's a 3-point game, I'm taking the under 44 and 1/2.

MINTY BETS: And, Matt, what is your pick?

MATT GOTHARD: Well, you know we've seen Nick Foles beat Tom Brady before. I know we've also seen Nick Foles try to score with this Bears offense. And so that's two things that I just can't get super excited about.

I'm personally probably gonna bet on the Bears moneyline, but I don't want that to impact my record for this year. So I'm gonna follow what Jared's saying. And I like the under, but I would say I'm gonna do a 6-point teaser for this game. So it's tease the under up to 50 and 1/2, and let's tease the Bears up to 11 and 1/2.

It's going to be a slow-scoring game. All of a sudden, 11 and 1/2 points is a massive amount. I think the Bears can keep it close. I'm gonna be taking moneyline-- not telling you to do that-- maybe like a teaser.

JARED QUAY: What kind of guy takes the moneyline and a teaser? It's like the opposite. It's like caution and aggression at the same time.
