Lou Lamoriello, Islanders disrupt NHL trade market with Bo Horvat deal

New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said he would take responsibility for his team's struggles and he made a blockbuster move, acquiring Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat in exchange for forwards Anthony Beauvillier and Aatu Räty, plus a protected 2023 first-round draft pick.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Bo Horvat is a New York Islander. Lou Lamoriello-- people thought Lou Lamoriello was sleeping at the wheel, and he gets Bo Horvat, who's arguably the biggest piece you can get ahead of the trade deadline.

OMAR: [INAUDIBLE], man. Lou-- Lou murdered the trade deadline. Because we were hearing that the Canucks want legitimate roster players, because they don't want to tank or whatever.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Yes.

OMAR: And again, Bo Horvat has what, like 27 goals this year?

JULIAN MCKENZIE: He's balling this year.

OMAR: Like he--

SAM CHANG: He's going at a pace faster than Pavel Bure's, which is a franchise record for the Canucks.

OMAR: And all they got was Anthony Beauvillier, who, again, has 9 whole goals-- 9. Aatu Raty, who is-- in that draft here, a lot of players-- a lot of teams wanted him in the second round, myself included, for the Leafs-- and a protected 2023 pick. And that's it. Lou ruined the trade deadline, because any other team-- like who are the other top free agents? Timo Meier?

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Timo Meier. I mean, that's going to be a very interesting pick with a qualifying offer.

OMAR: Man, if I'm San Jose, I'm pissed. If I'm San Jose, I am pissed. Oh, my God. Because the prices on deals just plummeted. But shout-out to Lou, man. They needed goal scoring, and hey, they got their goal scorer, because man.
