Kosovo: Terror arrests amid foiled plot to attack Israeli football team

At least 19 people have been arrested in Kosovo on suspicion of having links with ISIL. It comes amid reports that a plot was foiled to attack the Israeli football team when it played in neighbouring Albania last week. At least 200 people have been detained or investigated in Kosovo over their alleged links with ISIL in recent years. Some 300 jihadists from Kosovo have travelled to Syria and more than 50 have been killed there. Most of Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian majority are nominally Muslim but overwhelmingly secular. Police say the suspects detained are thought to have been in contact with Lavdrim Muhaxheri, a Kosovar Albanian fighter for so-called Islamic State who is believed to have ordered attacks in Kosovo and Albania. Albania moved a World Cup European qualifying match with Israel on Nov. 12 from the northern city of Shkoder to a venue near the capital Tirana because of fears of a possible attack by militants.
