Kamala Harris questions if Trump owes money to any foreign nation

A day after the New York Times broke a story revealing President Trump is hundreds of millions of dollars in debt, Kamala Harris had some questions. Some have said that the president owing that much money makes him a national security threat. Harris asked if Trump owes money to other nations, and asked if he owes money to anyone who would be impacted by his decisions, and if that would affect his judgement. Harris also expressed disbelief at learning that Trump only paid $750 in taxes in 2016 and 2017. She said she at first thought someone had left three zeros off that were supposed to come after a comma. Harris said it’s unfair for Trump to be paying so little while average Americans pay much more.

KAMALA HARRIS: Who does he owe the money to? Tell us, who do you owe the money to? And do you owe debt to any foreign nation?

- Vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris appeared on "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" Monday night, where she reacted to a story that broke over the weekend that President Trump is hundreds of millions of dollars in debt to unknown lenders, leading some to believe the president is a threat to national security. And Harris questioned if Trump's debt has an impact on his decision making.

KAMALA HARRIS: Do you owe anybody money who is impacted by any decision you make as president of the United States? We need to know that. The American people have a right to know that when the president of the United States acts, he acts with their priorities in mind, not with his priorities in mind.

- In the same story by "The New York Times," it was reported that Trump went years without paying any taxes at all, then only paid $750 when he did pay taxes in 2016 and 2017. Harris said that she didn't believe it at first.

KAMALA HARRIS: Literally, I thought that someone left out the three zeros, you know, after a comma. I honestly couldn't believe it. Not only is it shocking-- really shocking, truly shocking-- but it's so unfair.

- The Biden team wasted no time putting out a video showing how much more average Americans pay in taxes than Trump, a sentiment Harris echoed.

KAMALA HARRIS: I mean, you've got teachers, you've got firefighters, you've got, you know, front line workers, you've got people who are doing God's work to protect and lift us up paying more in taxes than the self-professed billionaire? It's inexcusable.
