G7 Leaders Lay Wreaths at Hiroshima Memorial as Summit Begins

G7 leaders visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum on Friday, May 19, to mark the beginning of the G7 Summit 2023.

Footage published by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, shows leaders from Japan, France, Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Italy, and Germany laying wreaths at the memorial, which commemorates the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

“Here we remember the terrible cost of war,” von der Leyen tweeted. “And we are reminded of our duty to preserve peace.”
