Former FIFA boss Sepp Blatter goes before tribunal to appeal football ban

Disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter is going before sport’s highest tribunal, to appeal against his six-year ban from football. The 80-year-old, who resigned in June last year, has been barred along with former European soccer boss Michel Platini, over a payment paid to Platini. “I am going to defend the situation, and I’m sure at the end, or perhaps I can’t say (for) sure, that the panel will understand that the payment made to (former UEFA head Michel) Platini was really a debt that we had against him, and this is a principle, if you have debts you pay them,” Blatter told reporters. They were initially banned for eight years. That was later reduced to six by FIFA’s own appeals committee. Platini’s already taken his case to the tribunal. His appeal was rejected, but his ban was cut further, to four years.
