Firefighters 'Gain Upper Hand' Against Sydney Inferno

Sydney fire officials said they had “gained the upper hand” on a major inferno burning in two vacant buildings on May 25.

According to local reports hundreds of people were evacuated from the area around the two buildings.

More than 100 firefighters were working at the scene, on Randle Street. Crews were also working to douse “smaller fires which threatened to spread to surrounding buildings, including residential apartments,” the fire service said. Credit: Fire and Rescue NSW via Storyful
