Should fantasy managers invest in the Jacksonville backfield?

Yahoo Fantasy analyst Matt Harmon examines the fantasy potential for each Jaguars running back in Urban Meyer's retooled backfield.

MATT HARMON: One burning fantasy football question for the Jacksonville Jaguars here in 2021 is basically, what are we doing with this backfield? And I'm personally projecting it to be quite a mess. I think all three of James Robinson, Travis Etienne, and Carlos Hyde-- yes, Carlos Hyde too-- I think all of these guys are going to play a role.

Let's start with Hyde there. I think he's going to snip into some of this early down rushing work. Hyde still is a pretty good player. He had some juice last year with Seattle. Obviously he had a good season with the Texans before that. And if you think Urban Meyer is not going to give a weird preference to some of his guys, need I remind you he just signed Tim Tebow off the scrap heap for literally zero reason.

Now when it comes to James Robinson at this point, just going in drafts where I just cannot advocate him as a pick there. I don't think he's going to have any access to receiving work. And he's going to basically be a touchdown or bust play in fantasy.

As for the rookie, I'll take the over on whatever Etienne's catches are. And I'll take the under on his carry, simply because I think that's the role he's going to play for Urban Meyer, a slasher guy. Not going to be a full-time wide receiver. We don't need to freak out too much about that. But again, he might have the best value of this group, simply because access to passing game work and an offense that will be playing from behind a lot is going to bring some fantasy juice.

But really, I'm going to try to avoid this backfield right now.
