Evacuation orders were lifted on Sunday, June 4, as crews gained ground on a wildfire burning in northern Michigan, reports said.

State officials reported that the fire burning in the Grayling Township area of Crawford County had scorched 2,400 acres of land as of Sunday, and said the wildfire started from a campfire on private property. The fire was 90 percent contained as of Sunday evening, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer had activated the State Emergency Operations Center to respond to wildfires in the state on Saturday, writing in a statement, “By taking this action, we can ensure state and local first responders have what they need to get this fire contained and prevent loss of life or property.”
