Drive-In Movie Theater Opens in Dubai in Response to COVID-19 Restrictions

A drive-in movie theater had its opening night in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, on May 13, as customers filled a parking lot at the Mall of the Emirates to watch Bad Boys for Life while maintaining safe social distances from one another.

The event was run by Vox Cinemas, whose theater at the mall was forced to close as part of restrictions brought in to stop the spread of the coronavirus in Dubai.

According to reports, the capacity of the drive-in is limited to 75 cars, and people over the age of 60 or between ages 3 and 12 are not permitted, in line with government regulations.

To date, there are 20,386 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the UAE, and 206 deaths, according to the country’s National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority. Credit: Howida Osman via Storyful
