Daniel Prude’s brother says reports of his brother being a drug addict aren’t true

Joe Prude, the brother of Daniel Prude, the man who died while in police custody in March in Rochester, New York, wanted to clear some things up about his brother. Daniel had PCP in his system when he died, causing some to say he was a drug addict. Chris Cuomo referred to Daniel as an addict and a habitual drug user, and Joe set the record straight. He said Daniel was not an addict, and that Daniel didn’t even know he was doing PCP. Joe said Daniel went to a party where he shared a blunt with others and that someone had laced it with PCP, unbeknownst to Daniel. Joe, who called the police on his brother after Daniel unexpectedly took off that night, reflected on that decision, and joined the growing number of Americans calling for mental health professionals to start handling such calls.
