Boulders Cover Road Leading to Yosemite After Severe Winter Season

Sections of California State Route 120 were closed on Thursday, May 18, as groups of boulders obstructed the roadway to Yosemite National Park following weather-related damage, park officials said.

According to a Yosemite National Park statement on Twitter, the road will be closed between Big Oak Flat and Merced Grove until at least mid-June and potentially until July.

While the road is closed predominantly due to a fissure in the road’s surface, footage from Caltrans District 9 shows boulders from rockslides scattered across the highway and snow being cleared from the route.

According to Yosemite officials, the park can still be accessed via a series of diverted routes. Credit: Caltrans District 9 via Storyful
