Bluegrass concert celebrates horse rescue's new healing barn

A horse rescue farm in Mount Airy is getting a brand-new, state-of-the-art medical barn that will allow the farm to care for even more horses in need. "We have 167 horses -- all drafts and draft cross horses -- that are rescued from slaughter abuse and neglect," said Christine Hajek, the founder and executive director of Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue. They are called gentle giants for their massive size and tender souls, and in Mount Airy, the Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue is a refuge for horses waiting for new homes.
