Bear Stuck in Orlando Tree for Three Days Captured, Released Into Woods

A young black bear who climbed too high in a tree at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, Florida, was finally caught by wildlife officials after spending three days up to 50 feet above the ground, local leaders said.

Video by Randy Davison shows the bear, nicknamed Blaze by State Representative Anna Eskamani, up in the air, after the juvenile climbed uncomfortably high on June 4.

Davison told Storyful that he and his wife looked up to see what was garnering the attention of a group of people. Expecting to see an eagle, the couple was surprised to catch instead a glimpse of the adorable mammal.

“The bear was 30 to 40 feet in the air resting on a stout limb and looking down in curiosity, if not fear, of the people gathering,” Davison told Storyful. “We all seemed to wonder how, and from where, a large black bear could wander through the urban streets of a large city. All apparently without being seen.”

Blaze, who began to captivate the city on Sunday, made news on Monday after it climbed down, only to climb up another tree after it was startled by a bicyclist.

Eskamani tweeted on Wednesday, June 7, that Blaze was caught and released into Ocala National Forest by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Credit: Randy Davison via Storyful
