Baltimore parents remember slain students at ceremony

Baltimore City Public Schools officials held an annual day of peace and remembrance on Thursday for the families of 19 school-aged children killed since May 2022. From May 2021 to May 2022, 12 school-aged children were killed in Baltimore City. This past May to May, the district reported 19 city students were killed. Among them was Izaiah Carter, 16, who was shot and killed in March outside Patterson High School. While police have arrested a suspect, Izaiah's mother, Michelle Hines, is still dealing with the pain and the frustration of losing a son. She held a sign bearing her son's name at Thursday's ceremony and shared her frustration.
