Argentina book their place in FIFA’s World Cup final

Argentina has a new football hero! Goal keeper Sergio Romero’s two spot-kick saves put his side in Sunday’s World Cup final where they will face Germany. The 4-2 win on penalties over the Netherlands gives Argentina their first chance at the trophy for 24 years and their supporters were delighted: “Argentina, I carry you here,” cried one fan pointing to his heart. “I take you with me everywhere. We are going to be champions and we are going to dedicate it to all of Brazil.” Argentina’s win compounds the misery of hosts Brazil who were humiliated 7-1 by Germany on Tuesday before seeing their worst fears realised when their South American neighbours booked their place at the Maracana on Sunday. All that just added spice to Argentina’s celebrations.
