CM Punk’s WrestleMania History: Fan’s Take

CM Punk, the current WWE Champion is less than a month away from the biggest wrestling match of his career. He will defend his title against Chris Jericho, in what is essentially the match to find out who the actual best in the world is. Since making his return to World Wrestling Entertainment, Jericho has set his sights on Punk and the world title. While Punk has been the biggest star in the promotion during the past year, he holds a 2-3 record on the biggest stage of them all, which isn't a great indicator of what the fans will see on April 1.

Who has he succeeded against and who has topped the straight edge superstar at WrestleMania?

WrestleMania 23: Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Punk made his WrestleMania debut in this exciting match and nearly got the win. Instead, Mr. Kennedy made it to the top of the ladder first and left Punk craving more in his WrestleMania debut.

WrestleMania 24: Money in the Bank Ladder Match

For the second year in a row, Punk appeared in the MITB match, but unlike the year before, Punk earned the victory. He would go on and take the world title contract he earned that night and win his first world title, defeating Edge.

WrestleMania 25: Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Once again, the voice of the voiceless found his way into the MITB match. For the second time in three years, Punk earned the victory and yet again, used his contract to win the world title. This time, he used his title to take the world title away from Jeff Hardy, finalizing a great heel turn.

WrestleMania 26 vs. Rey Mysterio

This may have been the worst showing of Punk's WrestleMania career. The buildup to this match with Mysterio was probably the best on the card outside of main event featuring The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. If Punk won, Mysterio would have been forced to join the Straight Edge Society, but he didn't and eventually lost his hair in the culmination of the rivalry.

WrestleMania 27 vs. Randy Orton

Coming into the match, Orton knocked off all members of the New Nexus, leaving just Punk for their WrestleMania showdown. Orton earned the victory in the highly competitive match, but this may have been the match that gave WWE reason to get behind Punk and put him in the world title hunt again.
