They call him "Captain America," but it was a classic Canadian song that blared as Randy Couture walked towards his last fight ever.
The 47-year-old UFC legend's entrance music –"Lunatic Fringe" by Red Rider – might just have been a subtle nod to the thousands and thousands of Canucks who came to see him take on Lyoto Machida at UFC 129.
The fight would end in spectacular fashion with Couture taking an astounding front-kick to the face in the second round. A kick hard enough to break 55,000 hearts.
After the knockout, thousands upon thousands of fans – many of which booed American fighters all evening – rose to their feet, chanting "Randy, Randy, Randy."
"He's a hero," said a visibly emotional Machida moments later.
So, if this really is the twilight's last gleaming for Couture, at least we can say it ended among friends.
Thanks for the memories.
