As many separated parents soon discover, raising children together can be complex – and it's something Heidi Klum knows very well.

The German-American model, 48, has opened up about the challenges of co-parenting in a new interview.

She shares three children – son Henry, 15, son Johan, 14, and 11-year-old daughter Lou – with her ex-husband Seal.

Speaking to The Sunday Times' Style magazine about how she overcomes difficulties in her mind, the America's Got Talent judge said: "It could be easier sometimes, but everyone is healthy and that’s the most important thing. Everything else can be figured out.”

The couple, who share custody of their kids, married in 2005 – and famously repeated their wedding ceremony every year – before they divorced in 2014.

Of their relationship, she added: "Sometimes it’s just talking things out, you know? I never really had that before.

"Before I always had to make all the decisions, do all the planning for everyone.”

Last year, according to People, the former couple reached an agreement after she claimed the singer refused to let their kids travel to Germany with her for work due to the pandemic.

Prior to their relationship, Klum dated the former Formula One boss Flavio Briatore, and they had a daughter Leni, now 17.

She is now married to the musician Tom Kaulitz, who is 16 years younger than her.

Last year, the mother-of-four appeared on the cover of the German edition of Vogue with her eldest child.

Posting about the moment on Instagram, she wrote: "I'm so proud of you.

"And it's not because you've chosen your own path.

"I know, that no matter which path you were to go down, you would be your own woman.

"You always know exactly what you want and what you don't want.

"You ain't no mini-me and I'm happy for you that you can now show who YOU are."
