Taylor Swift’s Squad: Who’s In? Who’s Out?

After dominating social media for the past two years, it appears Taylor Swift’s squad has gone underground. With the “Blank Space” singer skipping her big Fourth of July bash this year, we don’t know who’s currently in and who’s out. However, there have been clues as to the shifts in Taylor’s inner circle. Take a look.

Status: In(ish)
Why: As recently as March it appeared Swift and Lorde were still cool. Taylor happily promoted her pal’s new single, “Green Light,” despite her social media hiatus. But after comparing her relationship with Taylor to having a friend with an “autoimmune disease,” it appeared that Lorde may not be in the inner circle. When asked specifically about Taylor’s “squad” in an interview, Lorde replied, “You know, you make friends in different places, but I think for the most part I’m not, like, calling my idols for advice necessarily.” Lorde has since clarified the remark, saying Taylor is a “dear friend” whom she “loves very much.” However, she added that she found the perception of the “squad” idea to be frustrating. Selena Gomez

Status: In
Why: Selena Gomez is one of the founding members of Taylor’s squad and she’s not going anywhere. The “Bad Liar” singer — who even subtly gave Swift a shoutout in her new music video — was recently pressed about her BFF’s new boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. “Honestly, if my friends are happy, that makes me happy. That’s all I care about,” she said. Unlike Lorde, Selena knows how to handle coyly talking about Taylor in interviews. This is one reason Selena is going to be a squad member for life. Kendall Jenner

Status: Out
Why: Although Kim Kardashian claims Kendall Jenner was never actually in Taylor’s squad, we disagree. Taylor brought the model out as a surprise guest during one of her 1989 tour stops and the two documented a few hangouts in 2015 on social media. However, when Kendall rekindled things with Taylor’s ex, Harry Styles, all of that stopped. Oh, and there was also the whole Kim Kardashian-Taylor Swift-Kanye West feud. Karlie Kloss

Status: In… We Think
Why: With Taylor Swift’s Fourth of July bash a no-go this year, her squad scattered. Karlie Kloss has been in the group from day one — who can forget her and Taylor’s joint Vogue spread — but the model ended up spending the holiday with Kendall Jenner. As we just covered, Kendall is out, so Swifties were quick to think this to be “shade” thrown Taylor’s way. Considering Karlie and Kendall are both “it” models and were in Paris for fashion week, we don’t find it strange. As much as we love us some good squad gossip, we think fans are reading too much into this one. (Photo: Kevin Mazur/AMA2014/WireImage)

Gigi Hadid

Status: Very In
Why: Taylor has essentially gone underground since the Super Bowl following a headline-making 2016, but she is taking visitors… like pal Gigi Hadid. The model was photographed stopping by Taylor’s her apartment as recently as May. Swift also resurfaced (sort of) to praise her pal in Harper’s Bazaar. “As a friend, Gigi is one of the first people I go to for advice,” praised Swift. “She has this incredible ability to see all sides of a situation and simplify it for you, to see the complexity of people.” These two are definitely solid. Ed Sheeran

Status: In
Why: Despite being civil to Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran is one of the guys who gets a perma-invite into Taylor’s squad. He always gets included in #TayMerica (when it happens) and their bestie status has been confirmed over the last few months. During Ed’s massive press tour for “Divide,” he couldn’t stop singing Swift’s praises. In fact, he revealed he even hooked up with a few of her squad members. Lena Dunham

Status: In… Sort Of
Why: There’s no reason to believe that Lena and Taylor aren’t cool, but it doesn’t appear the Girls star is part of the squad. That’s becasue it sounds like it’s Lena’s choice. “I’m more of a one-on-one hanger,” Dunham — who appeared with some of the squad ladies in Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video — told Howard Stern. “A big group hang is not my specialty.” Still, Lena counts Taylor as one of her closest friends. The outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter even defended Swift for the singer’s choice to stay silent during the election. (Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic)
