pita_tofua: Dear World, if you want to know about the Olympic spirit speak to @samaneh_beiramibaher. She has had an un-deserved amount of negativity come her way for her placing in the race. Largely from people or article writers who do not understand the challenges of sport and the struggles just to meet the qualification criteria . I cannot shake her hand due to cultural reasons but if I could I would give her a Polynesian hug. She doesn’t deserve any of the negativity. She loves and is extremely proud of her country and her culture and all the amazing people from Iran. When we were in Turkey racing to qualify it was her voice yelling at us to not quit but to keep fighting. She did it despite the possibility of getting in trouble. She has the true spirit of Iran and of an Olympian.
(Photo via Instagram/pita_tofua)

Took a walk in the “Coffee Forest” today. *It’s not actually called the Coffee Forest. I just thought the trees looked cool so I asked @maiashibutani to take a picture of me holding my coffee* (Photo via Instagram/alexshibutani)

mirainagasu: Today wasn’t quite the performance I was going for but I have such a newfound respect for the Olympians all around me. It takes a huge level of mental strength to persevere during these three weeks, especially when your event is one of the last ones to go. Eight years ago, I went home in between the Opening Ceremonies and the actual event since the commute was so easy. Although I love Korea, there is nothing like home in the USA. I wanted to nail another triple axel on Olympic ice but unfortunately I didn’t even get a chance to when I hit a rut in the ice. Sometimes you just have to take it all in with a smile on your face. Even with the flaws, I enjoyed my Olympic performances and have been overwhelmingly happy with the support I’ve received from everyone. I’m grateful to the @olympics for bringing my family together to watch me compete and that my grandma decided to surprise me by coming from Japan as well! (Photo via Instagram/mirainagasu)

reesehanneman: @jagdish9849 is the entire India Ski Team! I met him one night while training out on the course, and we ended up talking for a while, very nice guy! It was a great lesson in perspective; he does indeed live in India, and the hurdles he’s faced there to become as good of a skier as he has are insane and well documented!! (I put an interesting article about just one of the debacles he had to get through, link on my home bio page) It was inspiring to see his excitement. #olympic #spirit #pyeongchang2018 #olympics #india #teamusa #makingfriends
(Photo via Instagram/reesehanneman)
