If you’ve been following Yahoo Style‘s Denim Week coverage, we’ve already brought you the best brands out there, as well as the craziest jean styles to know this summer. Now, we will be taking a look back at the best denim ad campaigns of all time.

There is no doubt that denim has had a huge impact on the fashion industry. Ever since the inception of blue jeans by Levi Strauss in 1873, styles have run the gamut from bootcut to skinny and straight-leg to boyfriend. You can scoop up affordable lines, or ultra-luxe versions by brands like Vetements.

But in particular, denim ad campaigns have played a large role in fashion history. Aside from being used to cement and spread a brand’s message, an ad campaign can be a strong representation of a certain moment in history. Denim ad campaigns have further acted as a catalyst for many models’ careers. If you recall, a 15-year-old Brooke Shields had a controversial moment modeling for Calvin Klein jeans in 1980, saying that “nothing” came between her and her Calvins.

In 1992, musician-turned-actor, Mark Wahlberg a.k.a. Marky Mark was photographed in a steamy embrace with a topless Kate Moss, also for Calvin Klein. That same year, a young Naomi Campbell was photographed by Steven Meisel wearing a simple white tee and denim shorts in what is now considered an iconic ad for Gap and a major moment in Campbell’s career.
