Keith Aucoin Again Called to the Washington Capitals

Keith Aucoin, who is 33 years old and one of the top players for the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League, will once again be playing with the Washington Capitals. On Tuesday, February 28, 2012, Aucoin got word that he was being called up. The player has been going back and forth between the Capitals and the Bears. Most recently, the player had been sent back to the Bears on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Over the month of February, Aucoin has made six trips up to the Capitals.

This is a great opportunity for Aucoin. The player made a great impression on the National Hockey League team during his last stint with the team. During the Saturday, February 25, 2012, game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Aucoin got a goal for the Capitals. This time, however, there may be more at stake. If Aucoin, who has played in eight games for the Capitals, plays in two more games, then it will be difficult to send him back to the Bears without risking losing the player to another NHL team. Once a player reaches 10 games, the player must be opened up to waivers before being sent to the AHL. If another NHL team wants to take the players, the player will go to that team instead of going back to their AHL team.

This is potentially a huge loss for the Bears. Aucoin has racked up some impressive statistics in the AHL, including 11 goals and 59 assists this season. He is the leader in the AHL for assists. The Bears have been struggling recently and are currently on a four game losing streak. The Bears are beginning to fall behind in the East Division of the Eastern Conference of the AHL. Without one of their top players, it will be difficult, though not impossible, for the team to get back in the running for the top of the division.

The Bears will next have an away game against the Norfolk Admirals on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Although fans will no doubt be disappointed if Aucoin is not there, and will not be returning, he will inevitably still have the support of the organization and fans while he is with the Capitals. It would be such a great opportunity if the player would be able find success in the NHL.
