Puck Daddy - NHL

Very scary moment last night during the AHL's Binghamton Senators' 5-1 loss to the Norfolk Admirals. Early in the first period, Senators defenseman Patrick Wiercioch was hit in the throat by a puck during a clearing attempt:

After the game, the Senators released a statement:

"The Binghamton Senators can confirm that Patrick Wiercioch is resting peacefully and his being evaluated at the hospital. There are no further updates on his condition at this time."

We all remember Trent McCleary's on-ice tracheotomy in 2000 after a slap shot hit him in the throat and , most recently, the unfortunate incident that saw 16-year old Kyle Fundytus die after taking a puck to the neck during a Midget AA game in Edmonton last month.

Fortunately, Joy Lindsay, beat writer for the Senators from the Press Bulletin, Tweets this morning that Wiercioch, a second round pick of Ottawa's from the 2008 NHL Draft, is in stable condition after spending the night at a local hospital.
