The Vegas odds for the NHL Awards came out Monday, via Bodog, and there's one stunner:
Odds to win 2010 Hart Memorial Trophy as League MVP
Henrik Sedin, Vancouver Canucks — 9/2
That's a hefty underdog right there. Real hefty. Consider that Joe Sacco is an 11/2 choice to win the Jack Adams behind Dave Tippett (1/9), and you get the picture.
If it's assumed Crosby's goal-scoring season propels him to the Hart, can Sedin take home the players' MVP vote for the newly named Lindsay against the same field? Or will Ovechkin win his fourth-straight NHLPA MVP?
Coming up, the rest of the Vegas odds on the 2010 NHL Awards. Sadly, no wagers on whether Chaka Khan makes a cameo appearance.
First, the goalies:
Odds to win 2010 Vezina Trophy for the Top Goaltender
Again, a bit of a surprise. Miller's going to win the award based not only on his regular-season numbers, which were stellar, but thanks to that Olympic juice (even if it shouldn't have been considered in the vote, it was inseparable from him at the time of balloting).
But Brodeur finishing ahead of Bryzgalov, even by a slim margin, is an upset.
On defense at forward:
Odds to win 2010 Frank J. Selke Trophy for the Top Defensive Forward
No surprise here, as Datsyuk is a well-regarded legacy pick.
Odds to win 2010 James Norris Memorial Trophy for the Top Defenseman
I voted for Doughty, and it appears he's the odds-on favorite. But if I were a betting man, I'd drop a few shekels on Keith here. (And by that I mean I am a betting man ... just not for something as scripted as awards shows. It's like betting on who wins "Survivor.")
For the rookies:
Odds to win 2010 Calder Memorial Trophy for the Top Rookie
Again, this was expected. Western Conference writers going big for Howard, and Myers getting his support from back East. Neck-and-neck, tough call, but Howard was playing stronger at the time of the voting.
Odds to win 2010 Jack Adams Award for the Top Head Coach
Dave Tippett, Phoenix Coyotes — 1/9
Joe Sacco, Colorado Avalanche — 11/2
Barry Trotz, Nashville Predators — 7/1
The only surprise here is that they offered odds on this. It's a one-horse race.
