2011 NFL Week 7 Picks and Predictions: An NFL Fan’s Predictions

With all of the parity in the NFL right now, it is a great time to be an NFL football fan. With exciting rookies like Cam Newton(notes) and upstart teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers, it is easy to understand why the NFL is the number one sport on the planet to their fans. As a lifelong fan myself, and someone who has picked games for years, I can honestly say that this season has been a challenge.

Take week six for example. I nailed the upset with the Buccaneers over the Saints, but then turned around and missed the Bills losing to the Giants. For every upset pick, it seems there is a corresponding gimme that gets messed up. Whatever the case, the season has been fairly solid thus far with 62 wins and only 28 losses. That is a pretty good percentage no matter how you shake it. Let's see if we can improve on it further with our week seven picks and predictions:

San Diego Chargers at NY Jets - MetLife Stadium

There was a time this season when I would have taken the Jets in this match up regardless. Not any more.

Week Seven NFL Winner - San Diego Chargers

Chicago Bears at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Wembley Stadium

On a huge stage, I see the Bucs winning this game going away. The win over the Saints in week six has given this team a ton of confidence, and I expect that will carry over against the Bears.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Tampa Bay Bucs

Washington Redskins at Carolina Panthers - Bank of America Stadium

Finally, the Panthers will break out with a huge win. The Redskins have quarterback problems and will not be able to keep up with the Panthers offense. It is a good thing, because the Panthers defense is not going to be stopping many teams this year. This week they do.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Carolina Panthers

Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions - Ford Field

This one will be a slug-fest but I expect the Lions to come out swinging. They are going to play much more relaxed now that they have lost a game. The Falcons have some problems that were not evident against Carolina in week six, but they will glow like crazy against the Lions.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Detroit Lions

Seattle Seahawks at Cleveland Browns - Cleveland Browns Stadium

Flip a coin on this one because it really depends on who shows up. The Browns are unpredictable and the Seahawks are as well. I pick the Browns simply because they are at home and do not have to travel.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Cleveland Browns

Denver Broncos at Miami Dolphins - Sun Life Stadium

I look for Tim Tebow(notes) to star in this game, and to really get the city of Denver behind him even more. This will be his coming out party.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Denver Broncos

Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans - LP Field

What a match up and it is for the lead in the AFC South to boot. I expect that coming off a bye week and healthy, the Titans will be a handful. With the injuries in Texas, I say the Titans take this one.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Tennessee Titans

Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders - Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

Throw the records out the window, because this one is always a dogfight. Expect the Chiefs to play a tough game in Oakland, but to lose in the final moments. I expect the running game in Oakland to be the difference.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Oakland Raiders

Pittsburgh Steelers at Arizona Cardinals - U of Phoenix Stadium

This might be a rematch of an old Super Bowl, but these are not the same teams. The Steelers have struggled all year with injuries and the Cardinals are still finding their legs under Kevin Kolb(notes). I expect that the Steelers will win the game, but they will not do so easily.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Pittsburgh Steelers

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings - Mall of America Field

The Packers will win in a laugher. Forget the history, this one will not be close.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Green Bay Packers

St. Louis Rams at Dallas Cowboys - Cowboys Stadium

For all the problems in Big D, they are not out of it in the crazy East. They certainly could go on a run and get back in the thick of things. This is a good game to start a run with too.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Dallas Cowboys

Indianapolis Colts at New Orleans Saints - Superdome

Wouldn't it be a hoot if the Colts could beat the Saints in an upset? Nah…

Week Seven NFL Winner - New Orleans Saints

Baltimore Ravens at Jacksonville Jaguars - EverBank Field

Now this is a terrible game for primetime. The Jaguars only do one thing well and that is run the football. It just so happens the Ravens stop the run very well. They also happen to be better than the Jaguars at virtually every thing else.

Week Seven NFL Winner - Baltimore Ravens

Week Six Record - 9-4

Season Record to Date - 62-28

·Bye: Buffalo, Cincinnati, New England, NY Giants, Philadelphia, San Francisco
