Zamboni involved in one of this year's most Canadian promposals

A video of a high school promposal from late January has been gaining some traction on social media after being tweeted out by the official NHL account on Tuesday evening.

In the clip, Jamie MacSween is asked to prom by her boyfriend Jayden Lester with the help of a Zamboni in Georgina, Ontario.

‘Can I score a date with you to… prom’ reads the sign on the side of the four-wheeled ice scraper while Lester, wearing his finest suit, struts out with a bouquet of flowers.

MacSween, shocked by the gesture, gives him a big hug and although she never says it, we can only assume that she said ‘yes’ to his question.

Want a better view of the action? I got it for you.

It seems like the ‘promposal’ has taken a life of its own in the last decade as young men across the country practice their wedding proposals on young women that they likely won’t marry. It’s a time-honoured tradition.

Lester likely thinks that he nailed his spectacle. I’m here to say that he didn’t.

Seriously man, what were you thinking? The time it takes for the Zamboni to complete a flood is crucial. It’s during those few minutes that hockey players focus on the task at hand. They visualize what they will do on the ice and prepare for the ensuing battle.

Your girlfriend is the captain of the Midget B Rep Georgina Golden Hawks. You can’t just come out and disrupt the routine of a squad’s leader. How can you expect her to go out and perform after going through such an adorable, emotional roller coaster?

(Since the tweet with the original video was posted on Jan. 27, it’s likely safe to assume that this took place on Jan. 26. And, according to my research, the Golden Hawks lost 5-0 to Durham West that night. Make of that what you will.)

Furthermore, who let you walk onto the ice with your tie looking like that? If it’s not touching the belt don’t even bother putting it on. And finally, why do this all so early? Aren’t most proms in late May or early June? You had plenty of time. Procrastinate like the rest of us!

After reading all of that, you might think that I must be bitter due to an awful promposal experience while in high school. Well, you would be what I like to call wrong. My promposal actually went very well.

My aunt was absolutely floored when I showed up at her door with a bouquet of tulips (her favourite) and a very direct question. I won’t give specifics about what happened later, but I’ll leave you with four words: Prom King and Queen.
