How young Islanders could score hockey tickets with a perfect checkup

A perfect checkup at the dentist could pay off for young hockey fans on Prince Edward Island this season.

The Charlottetown Islanders are kicking off a new promotion in September, partnering with the Dental Association of P.E.I. to offer kids 12 and under a free ticket to an Islanders home game.

That is, if the dentist gives them a thumbs up.

"We're lucky because our players are looked up to by kids in the community so any time we're able to partner with a group and promote personal health, we're more than happy to do that," explained Craig Foster, president of operations for the Charlottetown Islanders.

Brad Campbell is part of the ownership group for the Islanders, as well as a practising dentist since 2000 and a member of the Dental Association.

"Both hockey and dentistry are two of my biggest passions," Campbell said in a post on the team's website.

"The fact that these two organizations can team up to advance the importance of dental health, and health in general, stands for what we as an association believe in."

The team isn't sure how many tickets they'll be handing out this season but say the more young fans scoring a perfect checkup the better.

"It could take off and it could be great numbers and that's what we're hoping for so, the more the merrier," said Foster.

The Charlottetown Islanders open their season on September 23 at home against Saint John.
