The January transfer window closes at 6 p.m. ET on Friday. We’ll keep you updated with the final news and speculation from silly season’s winter cousin.

Edinson Cavani to Madrid? Miami? Nowhere?

Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani is the biggest star attacker repeatedly mentioned in transfer speculation this month. Or maybe second after Erling Haaland, whom Borussia Dortmund expeditiously snapped up right at the start.

Where will Cavani go, if anywhere? He reportedly handed in a transfer request earlier this month, and his father strongly suggested he’d go to Atletico Madrid.

Only it appears a potential move to the Spanish capital is falling apart. L’Equipe in France is reporting he’s staying put as Atleti’s separate bids of $11 million and $16.5 million didn’t meet PSG’s asking price. Furthermore, Thomas Lemar is expected to stay put, and his sale would supposedly have helped Atleti balance the books in a Cavani deal.

The Mirror is reporting that Manchester United is keeping tabs on Cavani as a possible summer acquisition, now that it’s expected he’ll stay with PSG.

But wait, there’s more.

Marca reports that Inter Miami, the fledgling David Beckham-helmed MLS club set to play its first season this year, has swooped in with a late bid for Cavani. There’s been little update on that front, however, which suggests it either isn’t true or PSG didn’t take the bid seriously.

L’Equipe and other outlets say Atleti might be preparing one final bid of nearly $20 million before the window closes Friday, so it might be an eventful Friday on this front.

Either way, we’ll have an answer soon.
