We may have gotten a clue about Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen’s 2018 draft eligibility on Saturday.

Allen, a junior, went through senior day festivities before Wyoming’s game vs. Fresno State. Allen didn’t start the game, however, because of a shoulder injury he suffered vs. Air Force last week. Nick Smith started in his place.

If he leaves school at the end of the season, Allen will be considered one of the best quarterbacks available in the 2018 draft class along with USC’s Sam Darnold, UCLA’s Josh Rosen and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson of Louisville. If, of course, all three of those players also declare for the draft. Rosen and Jackson are juniors while Darnold is a redshirt sophomore.

Speculation about Allen’s pro prospects began long before the beginning of the 2017 season. The QB was 209-373 passing for 3,203 yards and 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions as a sophomore in 2016.

His stats have declined in 2017, though Wyoming’s offense lost a bunch of talent around him. Allen is currently 141-251 passing for 1,658 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions as Wyoming entered Saturday’s game at 6-3. According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, the New York Jets have shown heavy interest in Allen:

If and when Allen is drafted highly he’ll be the second big-time QB prospect to be drafted after being coached by Craig Bohl. The Wyoming coach was the head coach at North Dakota State for 11 seasons before arriving at Wyoming in 2013. In his final season at NDSU, a sophomore named Carson Wentz appeared in 11 games.
