Woman swipes soccer jersey from 8-year old fan

A U.K. mother of two has been facing a fierce social media backlash after wrestling a game-worn soccer jersey away from an 8-year-old fan.

The incident occurred when Preston striker Jermaine Beckford, who had just tallied a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Swindon Town, tossed his match shirt into the crowd.

A tussle for the souvenir between the boy and 31-year-old Vickie Timbrell was caught on camera during the broadcast.

The jersey was later found up for sale on Gumtree.com, a website for classified ads in the U.K.

The Twittersphere has been heavy-handed with their commentary. One poster even called Timbrell “the most hated woman in the U.K.”

She claims it’s all a big misunderstanding, but the boy’s aunt says he was “gutted” over the incident.

Nevertheless, Beckford has agreed to sign another jersey for the youth and the team has offered him a tour of the stadium.

There is no word on the whereabouts of the original jersey
