Woman returns for bail court in relation to death of husband
Pikwakanagan -- A 61-year-old resident of Pikwakanagan First Nation who was charged with manslaughter last week in connection with the death of her 58-year-old husband, Joseph Sarazin, returns to the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke today (November 15) for a bail hearing.
Rachel Sarazin was arrested and charged following an investigation by members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after they received a call and arrived at the Sarazin residence on Kagagimin Inamo shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, November 6.
Upon arrival, they found Mr. Sarazin’s body inside the residence and he was later pronounced dead. Earlier reports stated he had been stabbed.
Mrs. Sarazin was taken into custody and appeared for a bail hearing on Friday, November 10. Her case was held over until today (Wednesday). She remained in custody at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre.
In a media release issued by the Ontario Provincial Police, police stated the matter is now before the courts and the OPP will be unable to comment further on the incident.
The investigation by the Renfrew County Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
