Wizards' Gortat responds to LaVar Ball, says John Wall will 'torture' Lonzo

With NBA Twitter full of epic clap-backs hidden (or made very clear) in Instagram posts, Snapchat stories, or comments on Twitter, it’s no surprise the cycle of remarks continued on Monday.

While Phoenix Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe’s rather cryptic Sunday tweets made more headlines on Monday, a new war of words was emerging between Washington Wizards center Marcin Gortat and LaVar Ball, the father of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball.

Gortat took to Twitter Monday morning to respond to comments made by LaVar Ball after the Lakers’ 119-112 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, when he all but guaranteed the Lakers would beat the Wizards on Wednesday:

“[The Wizards] better beware cause Lonzo ain’t losing again,” LaVar said. “Not in the same week!”

With media outlets quick to post LaVar’s once again outlandish comments, Gortat saw the video and decided to take action and reply on Twitter — as one does. He responded that Wizards star point guard John Wall would “torture” Lonzo all game long.

But don’t worry, Gortat wasn’t done. He’s excited to have the best seat in the house to watch Lonzo and Wall go head-to-head. Maybe Gortat will decide to take it to Lonzo too?

While things could have ended there, they didn’t. (They never do on NBA Twitter.) Gortat then responded to a person on Twitter who said LaVar was putting too much pressure on Lonzo by saying, “he will kill his son one day.”

While Gortat might have taken his comments too far, Wall gave his take on LaVar on the Wizards Tipoff podcast.

“I think [Lonzo’s] dad put him in a situation where guys are going to target him,” Wall said on the Wizards Tipoff podcast. “Lonzo is one of those kids that is very talented. He’s been a good player for years, he just don’t say much. I think his dad does all the talking for him.”

Lonzo was already put through the wringer opening night, when Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley seemed to enjoy welcoming Ball into the league. He’s bounced back in a big way though; since opening night, Lonzo has averaged 18.5 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds per game.
