Wisconsin loses LB Vince Biegel for 'several weeks' with broken foot

Wisconsin officials confirmed Friday that senior outside linebacker Vince Biegel, who is the Badgers’ most experienced linebacker and a team captain, will miss several weeks with a broken foot.

Reports surfaced late Thursday night that Biegel already had surgery to fix the injury.

“I really hate any time a player has to miss time due to an injury, especially a senior like Vince,” coach Paul Chryst said. “Vince has such a passion for football and loves playing the game. This team is very important to him and he is very important to our team. What you appreciate is that you know he will do everything in his power to get back on the field as soon as possible.”

Biegel has started 32 games for the Badgers, including the last 29 in a row. He has nine tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack and two quarterback hurries this season, and ranks eighth in school history with 18.5 sacks and tied for 13th in tackles for loss with 35.5. He was a third-team All-Big Ten selection last season.

With Biegel sidelined, Zack Baun, Biegel’s backup, likely will move into the starting lineup opposite T.J. Watt. Baun has six tackles, including two for loss this season.

No. 8 Wisconsin travels to No. 4 Michigan on Saturday.
