A fractured left foot will sideline Wisconsin linebacker T.J. Edwards vs. LSU.

Edwards was the Badgers’ leading tackler in 2015 with 84 tackles. He was expected to be the lynchpin of Wisconsin’s defense again in 2016 but suffered the fracture over the summer. He’s not recovered in time to be able to play against the Tigers at Lambeau Field in Week 1 according to coach Paul Chryst.

Wisconsin’s 3-4 defensive depth chart lists Jack Cichy and Chris Orr as the starters at inside linebacker. Ryan Connelly is listed as the backup for either player. Edwards is not listed on the two-deep and it’s unclear just how many more games he could miss.

Wisconsin offensive tackle Logan Schmidt will also miss the game against the Tigers. Wisconsin recently named quarterback Bart Houston as its starting QB.

• USC coach Clay Helton said Monday that Chuma Edoga would be the team’s starting left tackle vs. Alabama. Chad Wheeler, the team’s starting left tackle, is suffering from plantar fasciitis and has been considered a 50/50 proposition to play.

Edoga is a sophomore and was the No. 2 guard in the class of 2015 according to Rivals. He’ll have a tough test against an Alabama defensive front that returns DE Jonathan Allen and LB Tim Williams. The two players combined for 22.5 sacks in 2015.
