It comes shortly after the UK left the EU, leading to political tensions over the land border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Kensington Palace declined to comment on whether the couple would be making a trip further afield, to Australia, before confirming a visit to Ireland.

Charles and Camilla have been to Ireland on numerous occasions, and the Queen visited herself in 2011.

Rumours of the trip emerged in January, and The Sun reported the couple would likely visit places in Cork and Dublin.

The British Embassy in Ireland tweeted: “We look forward to welcoming The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Ireland next month.”

Further details will be announced “in due course” the palace said.
